About the Artist
I'm Andrew Heumann — I've been a generative artist in some form for over a decade. Over the last several years I've moved from producing fully digital work, to be viewed on a screen, to creating pen drawings on paper with my AxiDraw, a pen plotter (a computer-controlled drawing machine).
My drawings generally follow the same process: first, I write code in a program called Grasshopper, a visual scripting environment for Rhino, a 3d modeling tool. There I generate the composition I want to plot, exploring and trying different techniques until I arrive at an image I'm happy with. Then I use Inkscape to drive my Axidraw to put the drawing to paper.
